I further translate the enquiry from the last project into the digital realm: “how can translating personal cultural fragments reveal relationships between cultural perspectives rather than a single fixed meaning?“.
Retaining the memories submitted by respondents, I will use the same framework (original, equivalent, replacement) of memories for the new project considering the limited time we have. I just discovered Touch Designer and what it could do last March, and was interested in exploring the medium. Geared for interactive interfaces and installations, it could be an interesting area to represent these memories in.
Because I will be learning Touch Designer (TD) from zero, and creating a final project with it, I will need a robust plan to make sure I can deliver a project in five weeks. The plan is as follows:
- WEEK 1 & 2
- Study the working language of TD by copying various tutorials on YouTube. I will select tutorials that might be relevant to the final form of my project.
- Study how to navigate TD.
- Study different techniques possible from different tutorials so it can be combined into a new form.
- Speak and consult with Aaron Reid at Digital Computing Labs.
- Search reference works that speaks of memories or inter-cultural dynamics
- WEEK 3
- After understanding the basics, plan out a node network for the project
- Choose main tutorial as base and build on it by amalgamating features from different tutorials
- Experiment and adjust images from Projections 1 (postcards images)
- Understand how to connect to music synthesizers on local computer
- WEEK 4
- Translate images into sound/music on synthesizer software
- Trial and implement installation
- WEEK 5
- Finalize after receiving feedback
